What is Christmas Book Santa?
Christmas Book Santa is a gift exchange revolving around books. It's inspired by the Wishlist Project over at LiveJournal and YouTube - meaning you sign up and participate to the extent you are capable of. This means that you are in no way obligated to send stuff to the people who send stuff to you if you are not economically capable of doing so!
A few rules before we begin!
1. Since this exchange involves purchasing things and giving out your personal address, you have to be at least 16 years old to participate!
2. Giving out an actual address involves trust and misusing this information is a crime punishable in most countries around the world - BE RESPONSIBLE!
3. When contacting people about sending them gifts - DO NOT DO IT ANONYMOUSLY! If you get an anonymous request about your address or anything of the sort you must not respond!
4. You should not feel obligated to send stuff to everyone participating! I know it's superbly fun and I will doubtlessly try to send things to as many people as possible myself, but you probably need your money for other things as well. A good idea is to decide in advance on a maximum amount that you are willing to spend on these gifts!
5. Remember that you do not have to buy things through the store that hosts a person's wishlist!
6. We will only be accepting sign ups until the 11th of December, so if you want the chance of getting something sent to you remember to sign up on time!
Here is a brief rundown of the guidelines of this gift exchange.
1. Make a wishlist consisting of only books and book-related objects. These can be easily made through pages like Amazon or Book Depository. For Amazon Wishlists you can also link an address to the wishlist so that you won't have to give it out to the people who want to send you gifts (otherwise you will have to do this manually)! If you want things from multiple websites, feel free to make multiple wishlists!
- NOTE! Now that people have started to send out gifts we've noticed that shipping from Amazon can be rather costly. In many cases it costs more than the actual gift, which is definitely not something we want to see, so Book Depository is in many cases the preferred site, even though you then have to give out your address manually!
- Your name. It doesn't have to be your full name - in fact it can be your username for Tumblr or YouTube or Twitter etc. if you want!
- A link to your wishlist
- Would you like to receive book recommendations as a type of gift as well? Yes or no!
- Spoiler free gifts - yes or no? (Basically do you want people to tell you in advance what they're getting you or not? If you don't want people to tell you, there is a chance of getting duplicates, but it's so much fun to open up a package and not know the contents so perhaps it's worth it!)
- A way to contact you (Tumblr, Goodreads, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, e-mail....). This is especially important if you don't have an address linked to your wishlist and if you want to know what people are getting you in advance!
4. Remember to check back every now and then to see if there are new participants who have signed up!
